The local Ellwood City Relay For Life has announced two exciting events happening later in March. Committee meeting details are also made available to the public as the committee seeks to spread the word about the Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society right here in our home town.
Apr 12, 2019 Team Arby’s is planning a Relay For Life casino bus trip April 27, for $40 per person. The bus will leave Joe’s Bar at 8:30 a.m. And return at 8 p.m. The relay for life story In May 1985 Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon, decided to raise money for the American Cancer Society by doing something he enjoyed — running marathons. He spent 24 hours circling the University of Puget Sound’s Baker Stadium track — covering a total distance of more than 83 miles. The cities of Fontana and Rialto recently held their annual Relay for Life at Summit High School. Supporters and survivors who attended the event raised thousands of dollars for cancer research. Relay For Life is a team fundraising cancer walk event where team members take turns walking around a track or designated path. Each event is 6-24 hours in length and each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps. Relay For Life began in the USA in May 1985 when colorectal surgeon, Dr. Gordy Klatt, wanted to raise awareness of cancer and boost the income of his local cancer charity. Since then, RFL has become the largest fundraising event for cancer in the world.

Please join us for our next meeting of Ellwood City Relay For Life on Tuesday, March 12th at 6:00 pm. We will be meeting at the Moose, 1400 Factory Avenue. Plans will continue for our 2019 Carnival For A Cure on Lawrence Avenue again, Saturday, May 18th from 3:00 to 9:00 pm. Volunteers are needed for the Kid zone, tent set-up and area set-up, luminaries and general Relay information. If you would like to help or serve on a committee come to the meeting.
Battle of the Bartenders
It is back, an evening of Relay teams battling behind the bar to raise money for Ellwood City Relay For Life. On Friday, March 22, 2019, Main Street Grille, 708 Lawrence Avenue, downtown Ellwood City, is hosting this battle from 9:00 P.M. – 1:00 A.M. Along with a donation cover charge at the door there will be drink specials, taco bar, a DJ, special guest, basket raffle and giveaways.

Casino Bus Trip to Presque Isle
Team Circle of Friends is going to Presque Isle in Erie to play at the casino on Saturday, March 30, 2019. The group will depart from the Ellwood City Hospital via bus at 7:30 am and return at 5:30 pm, during the ride there will be fun, games, 50/50, prizes, snacks and drinks. The cost is $40.00 which includes a $30.00 slot play. Seating is limited to 56, so reserve your spot!

MENA Region
On the 17th and 18th of November and with the participation of more than 2,000 people, Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and Founder and Royal Patron of Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP), launched the region’s first-ever Relay for Life at the American University of Sharjah, a 24-hour walkathon aimed at generating publicity and funds for the fight against cancer.
Casino Relay For Life 2019 Schedule
The overnight event has attracted the participation of more than 2,000 ‘relayers,’ with individuals and institutions taking part including 52 schools, six universities, eight partners, 37 government and private institutions and 67 cancer survivors.
Over 40 activities were held around the clock during Relay for Life, including a live band and DJ performances, comedy acts, poetry readings and storytelling sessions. There was American football, golf, bubble soccer and jousting, while the most junior members of the family enjoyed bouncy castles, games, arts and crafts sessions, face-painting, movies and a soft play area.
