NUMBER OF CARDS: Standard 52 card deck

TYPE OF GAME: Vying/Betting

AUDIENCE: Adults

CARD VALUES IN SEVEN TWENTY-SEVEN

King, Queen, Jack: 1/2 point each

2-10: Face value

Aces: 1 or 11 point(s)

Aces = 1 for constructing a hand of 7

Aces= 11 for constructing a hand of 27

THE ANTE & THE DEAL

Each player places a mutually predetermined ante in the pot. The dealer deals each player two cards: one face-down and one face-up, the order of which it is dealt is in accordance with the house rules.

Players examine their face-down card. On each player’s turn, they have the opportunity to ask for more face-down cards. Play starts to the left of the dealer.

THE BETTING

After the deal is a round of betting. Starting to the left of the dealer, the first bettor may pass or bet within the predetermined minimum and maximum limits. Bets are placed near the pot.

If the first bettor bets, other players may:

  • Fold, throw in your cards and forfeit your ante. You sit out on the hand and cannot win the pot.
  • Call, place an extra stake matching the previous bet or the raise.
  • Raise, stake the call amount plus an additional amount between the minimum and maximum limits.

If all players but one folds, the last remaining player wins the pot. Cards are thrown in, shuffled, and the next player deals.

If more than one player remains in the game, betting continues until each player’s stake is equal. Meaning, if a player raises, each player must call to remain in the betting. Next, player’s will have the ability to get an additional card.

EXTRA CARDS

Starting from the active player directly left to the dealer, and moving clockwise, players make ask the dealer for another card, dealt face-down, or stick with the hand they have.

If all the active players refuse an extra card they go directly to the showdown. If at least one player opts to get an additional card, there is another betting round. After the betting round, there is another opportunity to ask for a card. Players are permitted to get an additional card in the second round even if they do not choose to in the first.

SHOWDOWN

Active players expose their cards. There are two winners: the player nearest 7 and the player nearest 27, they split the pot. If there is a tie, split the pot evenly between the tieing players. For example, Player A has 6.5 points, Player B has 6.5 points, Player C has 25 points. Player C would receive half the pot while Player A and B would both receive on fourth.

Showdown Variations

Nearest to 7/27 Wins: Only the difference, above and below the target number, count.

Example, with scores: 5, 6.5, 26, 28. 6.5 wins half the pot, 26 and 28 win a fourth.

Over is a Bust: Only scores below the target, or exactly equal, can win.

Example, with scores: 5.5, 7.5, 26, 28. 5.5 wins half the pot, 26 wins half the pot.

Under Trumps Over: When the difference between scores are equal, the score under the target beats the score over the target.

Poker

Example, with scores: 6.5, 7.5, 26, 28. 6.5 wins half the pot, 26 wins half the pot.

INTRODUCTION TO IN-BETWEEN

7-27

In-between, or as it is better known Acey Deucey, is a card game involving betting. The game also is called Maverick, (Between the) Sheets, Yablon, and Red Dog, and is closely related to High Card Pool.

HOW TO PLAY

Poker

Each player places the ante in the pot. During the game each player takes turns, the game continues until there is no money left in the pot.

Rules

During a turn, the dealer deals two cards, face-up. The player then decides to bet if they believe the third card dealt will be in between (in rank) their two cards. A bet can be between zero or the total value of the pot.

  • If the third card is in-between, that player wins their bet from the pot.
  • If the third card is not in-between the two, that player pays to the pot their bet.
  • If the third card is the same rank as one of the two, they pay to the pot double their bet.

The best hand is an Ace and a two, hence the name “Acey Deucey,” because you can only lose your bet if the third card is an Ace or a two.

Poker 7-27 Rules Games

If you are dealt two aces, split them if the first ace was called high, and the dealer will deal each ace a second card. You can only choose one hand to bet on, or choose to pass entirely.

Strategy

To maximize your bets, bet when there are at least 8 cards between you two. For example, 2 & J…3 & Q….4 & K…5 & A.

If your cards are closer together, pass or bet zero.
